SAN JOSE, Calif. -- After several denials, IBM Corp. confirmed that it has experienced a layoff within its slumping chip unit.
According to The Burlington Free Press, IBM's Microelectronics Group slashed 180 jobs at its fab operations in Burlington, Vt.
Rumors were running rampant about the layoff.
The move follows a slump in sales for the unit. In its most recent quarter, IBM's chip unit is said to have experienced more than a 20 percent drop in sales.
